A Time for Everything

One of my most appreciated authors, Paulo Coelho, wrote in 'Eleven Minutes' that there is a time for everything, such as a time to gain and a time to lose, a time to break down and a time to build up.

I've drawn inspiration from his works many times in my passion for literature, and today I want to reflect on how embracing the cycles of life is essential, especially when dealing with change.

Comparing my 20s to my 30s feels like talking about two entirely different persons, in terms of awareness, life experiences, and challenges I've had to face.

When I compare every single year of my life until now, I can't find one year perfectly mirroring another. My 2022 looks vastly different from my ongoing 2023.

This brings me to another part of Coelho's wisdom:

'There is a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted.'

Let's consider what the pandemic taught us on a global scale: we were all called to pause and take that time to sow seeds for something new. We didn't know when or how it would manifest. When summoned for something new, the results aren't immediately visible, requiring patience to see what's unfolding.

When the time comes to harvest what is planted, we should understand that the cycle continues, and we need to be prepared for another change.

This is what coaching has taught me: to embrace change, whether it's good or bad, expected or unexpected, and find a new way to steer ourselves towards the goals that a new life cycle brings, regardless of whether we are in our 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s and beyond.

Every age, as long as we are alive, brings new challenges, and that's the beauty of facing them. No year is the same as another. What we once considered a massive mountain to climb may become a pleasant, flat hiking trail in no time, and vice versa for other challenges that may come our way.

Embracing these challenges is a healthy exercise in self-awareness, which may help us discover our best ally, particularly in a coaching setting, where specific questions (referred to as powerful questions) are posed to enable that awareness that might not otherwise surface in everyday conversations.

Furthermore, recognizing that every year is distinct from another and that cycles vary is an excellent exercise that prepares us for what lies ahead.
